Care of the Venus Flytraps

Care of these amazing plants is not as hard you might think here in Colorado.  The Venus Flytrap only requires a few insects a year.  They love sunlight and water.  As the plants mature their traps will turn black and you will have to cut the black traps off and watch as new traps appear in roughly 6 weeks.  These plants are best to be cared for indoor with some shade or filtered sun all day.  They grow in Canadian peat moss.  These are bog plants and love humidity.

Venus Flytraps need a dormancy phase, so it is recommended in the winter months let it go dormant, cut back all the leaves, put the bulb or corm in a ziplock bag (not sealed) and place in the refrigerator for about 60 days.  Take the trap form the fridge and repot in Canadian peat moss.  Place the pot in a dish of water and in a window with good sunlight.  They will regrow fairly fast.
